"Seeing his joy despite his disabilities was really amazing to me and really helped to shape the rest of my trip. "

Summer 2019

One of my favorite moments during this trip was whenever I was playing soccer with one of the residents from Matthew 25:40.  This was our second day in Jamaica and I was honestly a bit scared.  As soon as we arrived, I saw this boy and he was so excited that we were there.  In addition to being born with HIV/AIDs he was also mentally disabled, yet he had this joy that was contagious.  I kicked the soccer ball to him a few times at the beginning and then went on to play soccer with the other boyws.  Later Kara Jackson and Maggie Freedy were kicking soccer ball with this resident and I joined in.  Before kicking the ball he would make the sign of the cross.  Every time he kicked the ball he was so full of joy and celebrated like he just scored a goal in a huge game.  Seeing his joy despite his disabilities was really amazing to me and really helped to shape the rest of my trip.
