"We now have a lifelong friendship and will always pray for each other."
This was my second trip down to Jamaica. This year and last year have been so great in many different ways. One blessing I received here last year was through a beautiful young girl named Tiara. I met her last year when we stayed at Sophie’s place, but we never became that close. This year, I saw her and her face immediately lit up with joy. She somehow remembered me from just a few encounters in the previous year. We started hanging out and soon she gave me the nickname “baby.” I have been her baby the whole week and I have been so happy feeding her and talking about her time at school. I see God so clearly in her because of how happy she is all of the time. She is always looking out for others and asking how their day was. After a rough year in terms of my faith, I firmly believe God has placed Tiara into my life. This week has been amazing and I will miss her so much. We now have a lifelong friendship and will always pray for each other.

The week we spent in Jamaica was truly amazing. It changed my life and really opened up my eyes to how different others lives can be. There were so many great stories and I was beyond thankful that I was able to interact with so many of the residents. One man that stood out to me was Andre. He was very quiet and sat next to me in church at Jerusalem. He would always smile when I was talking and he loved telling me about his work. He was so hardworking and was one of the few residents that did labor jobs around the site. He loved his job and never complained even though he was out most of the day moving heavy loads of dirt. We were supposed to move the dirt our first day there but he didn’t want the day off so he kept working. I grew closer to him and he told me his favorite foods and friends. He would get mangoes from the trees and give them to all the kids not even keeping any for himself! We went back a second day and he was elated to see me and I felt the same. Andre was so happy to talk and take pictures with me. I’ll never forget his determination and his huge smile.
