"I will always remember this because it gave me an opportunity to see God in a stranger and to allow God to work through other to touch my heart and show me God’s love.  "

Summer 2019

On this trip, the one encounter that I will forever hold in my heart happened at Jacob’s Ladder.  A couple of minutes before Mass, I was standing outside the community center when a resident grabbed my hand and started leading me up the hill.  I tried to start conversation but he never really replied.  When we had arrived at the chapel we sat in silence together.  After awhile he grabbed my hand again and when I looked at him, he used sign language to say, “I want God.”  These three words brought tears to my eyes because I was able to see this man’s soul.  Even though I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name, I felt so connected and saw God in him.  He continued to repeat this phrase “I want God” multiple times, each time reaching deeper in my soul and touching my heart.  I will always remember this because it gave me an opportunity to see God in a stranger and to allow God to work through other to touch my heart and show me God’s love.
